UNIMA FRAIS is a company specialized in the fishing and the rearing of the first Red Label prawns, and the wild shrimps from the Madagascar mangrove.
For nearly fifty years, the Unima Group has been a pioneer of shrimp in Madagascar. Unima has developed eco-models for fishing and farming, a synthesis of the best global practices for the respect of the environment. With a workforce of 2,500 people, the Group is the island’s leading exporter, with catches of 5,000 tons per year for the most demanding consumers. Today, Unima can boast the confidence of the largest fish wholesalers, catering specialists and leaders in mass distribution. The Group produces the famous shrimp to be eaten raw, sold in Japan under the name Ikizukuri. As the ultimate proof of quality, in Europe it was awarded the first Label Rouge ever granted to a shrimp. This demand for excellence has led the group to a completely controlled vertical integration: food production, domestication, reproduction, breeding, farming, packaging, cooking (chilled cooked shrimp), distribution offering perfectly controlled quality, traceability and service to distributor customers.
