The aim of the MARCO project, which falls within the ‘GIS Campus de la Mer’, scientific project, is to develop an original and innovative approach to the study of the marine environment, its resources and the quality of aquatic products as part of a regional dynamic  incorporating environmental impact. It will eventually define all the critical parameters for the proper management of resources in keeping with the quality and safety of aquatic products for the consumer. Knowledge and observation of the marine environment and its associated ecosystems including food webs (axes 1 and 2) on the one hand and understanding the response mechanisms of fishery and aquaculture organisms, populations and communities to their environment and to human-induced pressures on the other (axis 3) will both enable us to assess the risk of chemical or microbiological contamination of aquatic products in a food safety context and the development of these products (axis 4) and to evaluate the hazards and  risks associated with inshore and coastal areas (axis 5). Finally, improved by experimental and numerical modelling, understanding and the knowledge of the response of structures subjected to the action of the marine environment will allow for better system reliability (axis 6). This project is in line with Pôle AQUIMER’s performance contract and is the interface between scientists and industrialists in the seafood industry.
